According to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com the Cuban prospect Yoan Moncada has opted to sign with the Boston Red Sox.

Moncada was heavily pursued by the Yankees, Dodgers, Padres, and Red Sox before making his decision. Corey Brock of MLB.com reported that the Padres were in on the 19-year old right up into the very end.

Brock also reported that Padres came in with a offer of $25 million dollars.

Moncada ended up signing for $30 million. Padres general manager A.J. Preller spoke to Brock about missing out on the young prospect.

“When we value Moncada and looking at the whole situation or any player, if we’re going to exceed the bonus pool, we want to make sure it’s the right guy at the right time,” Preller said. “Not having signed him gives us some flexibility down the road.”

While the signing would have been big the Padres have made their fair share of moves this offseason and will not be crying over spilled milk.

Below is Moncada’s career stats from Cuba.
