Williams’ Triple-Double Saves Clippers From Off Night

Clippers

Friday was anything but normal for the LA Clippers.

Due to sub-zero temperatures in Chicago, the roads were barely passable and made travel for the visiting Clippers a much greater chore than it usually would be. With their game against the Bulls slated to start at 7 PM CST, the team wouldn’t arrive at the United Center until 6:15. Not leaving the guys much time to get warmed up and get into their normal pregame routines.

For the majority of Clippers players it was clear they were off their game, but not all. Tobias Harris has been a consistently hot starter for LA this season and despite the shift in his warmups, he continued that trend in this one. Harris put up 11 points in the opening quarter and continued to be one of the team’s deadliest weapons throughout the contest. Harris closed out the game with 29 points and 8 rebounds, managing to be one of only two Clippers starters to score in double figures.

LA started to slip in the second quarter and continued to slide throughout most of the third, trailing by double-digits to the 11 win Bulls squad. That was until Lou Williams decided it was time to turn it on and did he ever. After notching just 11 points in the first half, Williams put up a clutch 19 in the final half of play, netting him 30 points before this one was all over. Williams did more than just score for his club, nabbing 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Getting him a rare triple-double in just 32 minutes of play.

While few Clippers were successful finding ways to get buckets, the Bulls had no such problem. 5 Chicago players scored in double figures, led by former UCLA Bruin Zach LaVine with 29. Chicago even got a spark off the bench by the much maligned Jabari Parker, putting up 15 points and 4 rebounds in what was one of his best games this season.

The clutch finish by Williams helped the Clippers come out on top 106-101.

It certainly wasn’t their prettiest performance of the year, but the team will take the win nonetheless. The Clippers will take on the Kings in their next matchup on Sunday back home at Staples Center.
