Wild First Half Leads To Galaxy Victory In San Jose

Galaxy

Throughout the years the Cali Clasico has provided many memorable moments.

The first half of this matchup will certainly be remembered among some of the best and most exciting.

With Bradley Diallo returning from red-card suspension that saw him miss the club’s previous matchup against Minnesota, this is the Galaxy’s best lineup with all the injuries the team is currently suffering from. Diallo’s return was certainly felt but we’ll get to that in a minute.

It was the home San Jose Earthquakes that seized the opportunity first as who else but Chris Wondolowski fired one past Brian Rowe to get the scoring affair started. A great cross by Danny Hoesen found Wondolowski for the easy finish.

Los Angeles wouldn’t have to wait long for a response as Joao Pedro hammered home his first goal in MLS in the 19th minute. A rocket that Earthquakes keeper David Bingham just couldn’t get to in time.

After striking first, San Jose lost all momentum after that Pedro goal and things only got worse for them in the 34th minute. Galaxy fullback Bradley Diallo charged up the field and took it into the box where he was subsequently fouled and the penalty went to Giovani Dos Santos who put one in the back of the net. Putting the Galaxy in front, 2-1.

But San Jose would strike back as Hoesen, having a great game for his squad was able to find the back of the net himself after assisting on the Wondolowski goal earlier. Tommy Thompson found Hoesen open in the middle of the box and he was able to punch it home.

But the wild first half wasn’t over yet. Diallo again left his mark on this game as he went to cross one into the box in the 42nd minute and the ball deflected off of Earthquakes defender Victor Bernardez and went into the San Jose net. Giving the Galaxy a 3-2 lead going into the half.

The second half saw the two teams struggling to show the same energy they showed in the first. The two clubs seemed to be tired after a first half that included non-stop action.

It was the 65th minute when that finally changed and Dos Santos again found the back of the net for his fifth goal in four games. A wonderful cross from Romain Alessandrini put the ball right on his head for an excellent goal.

Los Angeles would lead then 4-2 and needed to milk as much time off the clock as possible to come out with a key victory in this rivalry matchup.

But they would do so successfully as they would wind up victorious in this one 4-2.

Another great win for the Galaxy who are on a roll at this point of the season getting up to 17 points on the year.
