Welcome to Cooperstown Vlad and Trevor
- Updated: January 25, 2018
The Rock group AC/DC made the song “Hells Bells” famous back in 1980. The song was a familiar call to battle for Closer Trevor Hoffman of the San Diego Padres. Hoffman was the best closer in the game of baseball and now he will join the most exclusive team, the Baseball Hall Of Fame.
Former Los Angeles Angels slugger Former Los Angeles Angels slugger Vladimir Guerrero will become only the third Dominican Republic-born player to reach Cooperstown. Guerrero won the MVP award in 2004, his first season with the Angels and he could be the first-ever Angels player to be represented in the Hall.
NUMBERS THAT GOT THEM TO COOPERSTOWN
Guerrero played 16 years for four different teams, Montreal, Los Angeles, Texas, and Baltimore, with a lifetime batting average of .318. A nine-time All-Star, Guerrero won the
Silver Slugger Award eight times. He completed his career with 449 home runs and 1,496 RBI’s, which ranked him 40th and 57th respectively. Raw power, hitting for average, and an excellent throwing arm describes one of the most dynamic players during his peak between 1998 to 2006.
Hoffman played 18 years for three teams, Flordia, San Diego, and Milwaukee. His career record was only 61-75 with a 2.87 ERA, Hoffman is the only pitcher in the Hall without a start, a shoutout, and a complete game pitched. He appeared in 1035 games with 601 saves, second only to future Hall Of Famer
Mariano Rivera. Hoffman was a seven-time All-Star he set a Major League record for 20 or more saves 15 of 18 seasons played.
We at CaliSports News are proud to congratulate both Trevor Hoffman of the Padres and Vlad Guerrero of the Angels for their election into the Baseball Hall Of Fame. Larry “Chipper” Jones and Jim Thome will also be enshrined in Cooperstown in late July.
