- Updated: March 28, 2017
After chalking up two victories over the San Antonio Rampage last week, the Ontario Reign finds itself at 31-18-10-0 with 74 points, seven points behind the San Diego Gulls and 11 points behind the San Jose Barracuda in the Pacific Division. The Reign next play the Bakersfield Condors back-to-back games on Friday, March 31 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 1 at 6 p.m. at the Rabobank Arena.
The first match against the Rampage, on Friday, March 24, saw the Reign get twice the amount of shots (36 – 18) as its opponent, seven penalties compared to one for its opponent, and for the most important stat one more goal than the other team. A 3-2 victory included two goals by Michael Mersch and two assists for Alex Lintuniemi. Reign goalie Jack Campbell got the win with 16 saves on 18 shots.
The same goalie, the next night, got his fourth shutout of the season. With 25 saves total and 10 in the final period, Campbell led Ontario to a 2-0 victory. Mersch got another goal, his 16th of the season.
Campbell, through the Reign Insider, said,
“It’s definitely an easier game when you play with the lead. Just loved the way we played tonight and last night too. That team doesn’t give up at all. For us to get four points out of the weekend just shows we played two really good sixty minute games.”
