Weekly Reign Wrap-up: Team Splits Weekend, Stays at .500
- Updated: December 11, 2017
The beat goes on as the Reign continue to split wins and losses over the year – losing one and winning one last weekend – landing the team at this juncture of the season at .500, 10-10-0-1, a mere .182 percentage points and 9 real-life points behind Pacific Division-leading Stockton Heat.
The Reign take on that first place team at 7 p.m., Friday, December 15 at the Citizens Business Bank Arena.
In the Saturday game – a 4-2 loss to the Texas Star, the Reign went out to a 2-1 lead only 22 seconds into the third period on forward Austin Wagner first professional goal. All for naught as the Stars scored two goals 25 seconds apart early in the third. An empty netter finished off any chances for a comeback. The other score from the Reign came from forward Michael Mersch on the power-play goal.
In the Sunday game, it took overtime to decide a winner. Two goals by Mike Amadio were enough to take the game into overtime, where Kevin Gravel scored 35 seconds into the extra frame, on assists by Matt Moulson and Amadio. Goalie Cal Petersen saved 37 of 39 shots to take the victory.
In other Reign news, defenseman Jordan Subban was assigned to Ontario in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks who received forward Nic Dowd. We’ll see how this trade unfolds over time (my wife isn’t happy about it), and also see which direction the team will take now that it rests at that .500 plateau.
