Weekly Reign Wrap-up: .001 Out of Third and Fifth Place
- Updated: March 6, 2018
Inching its way up the standings of the Pacific Division, the Ontario Reign – with its three overtime games last week – presently are 27-1-4-2 and 60 points, a mere .001 percentage point behind the Stockton Heat and the same .001 point above the Texas Stars. It’s a cozy division at present, as we make our way towards the playoffs. They play the Stockton Heat at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 7 in an away game.
In last week’s action, Philippe Maillet scored two goals and T.J. Hensick scored halfway through the overtime period to give Ontario at 3-2 victory over the San Antonio Rampage on Wednesday, February 28. Cal Petersen saved 19 of 21 shots to secure the win.

In the Friday matchup, another overtime game saw the Reign lose 5-4 versus its rivals San Diego Gulls. Ontario goals came from Maillet and Michael Mersch and two third period goals from Justin Auger. Goalie Scott Wedgewood, in his first start since joining the Reign, saved 19 of 24 shots.
In the Sunday game, we have our third overtime game – this one a loss in a shootout. Andrew Crescenzi scored in the first for the Reign, and the team didn’t see another goal all night. Petersen saved 28 of 29 goals. So the team found three different ways to conclude an overtime. In either case, one point is one point, and they all count in a tightly bunched-up Pacific Division.
