The Los Angeles Kings were shutout tonight against the Washington Capital 4-0. The struggles continue for the reigning Stanley Cup Champions. In their last game they fell to the Boston Bruins 3-1, and looked to even up their road trip with a win tonight.

It has been a struggle all season for the Kings to get out to a quick start. Troy Brouwer opened up the scoring for the Capitals with a wrist shot that was assisted by Evgeny Kuznetsov and Karl Alzner. The first period ended with the Kings down 1-0 as the Capitals controlled the period.

In the second period it was Brouwer again as he scored a tip-in shot that was assisted by Mike Green and Nicklas Backstrom. The Kings headed into the third period with an uphill battle.

The game components just didn’t seem to go the Kings way. Backstrom scored a wrist shot goal of his own that was assisted by Marcus Johansson and Alex Ovechkin. Less than a minute later Eric Fehr scored a backhand shot which was the final blow.

Capitals Goaltender Braden Holtby recorded the shutout. He made 27 saves tonight. The Kings will try to rebound as they take on the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
