- Updated: January 12, 2015
The Toronto Maple Leafs will take on the Los Angeles Kings tonight at the Staples Center. The Kings have been struggling lately and they most recently lost to the Winnipeg Jets .
Sparked by the Kings struggles, CaliSports writer Jeff Duarte, discussed the reasons and possibilities as to why this is so. You can read it here.
Tonight will be the fourth game of a six game homestand for the Kings. They not only allowed the Rangers to score four unanswered goals on Thursday night, but also made mistakes in a game that looked like would be a win. It has been a struggle on the defensive side of the puck, but the team are now facing the issue of playing without two of their players; Tyle Toffoli, who is out with mono, and Tanner Pearson, who suffered a broken fibula.
Captain Dustin Brown told the following to LAKingsInsider.com
“I think if you look at our team historically over the last however many years, what’s made us a good team is when guys go down we have guys that, one, come in and play well, and two, our current players elevate their game. So we have to draw on that,”
For the Maple Leafs, they are coming off a win against the Columbus Blue Jackets. It was the Maple Leafs’ first win after the firing of Randy Carlyle as coach on Jan. 3.
“I definitely feel like that’s how we have to approach the game,” interim coach Peter Horachek told the Maple Leafs website after the win. “It’s a lot harder to play that way, but that’s the way we need to play as a team that’s trying to get back to where it needs to play.”
The Kings lost to the Maple Leafs 4-3 in their last meeting.
