Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions for the LA Rams

@USN1337

It was a rough 2016 season for the NFL’s reintroduction in Los Angeles. But with a new year comes a new season and here are 5 New Year’s resolutions the Rams have in store for 2017.

  1. Get Todd Gurley some security- The Rams this season struggled historically offensively and one of the primary issues was the inability to run the ball. After Todd Gurley had a stellar rookie season in St. Louis, this season fell by the waist side at least statistically speaking for the 2015 NFC offensive rookie of the year. He averaged only 3.2 yards per carry for an offensive line that was getting repeatedly punished in the back field. Gurley has proven when he has space to work with, he is as good as anyone in the NFL; just ask Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott how much of an impact an O-Line plays. The Cowboys are ranked second highest according to footballoutsiders.com in yards per carry by a running back while the Rams are second worst.
  1. Goff needs to find his inner strength- First overall pick and quarterback Jared Goff is not the person to blame for the Rams terrible season offensively and maybe if he had been given some help from some of his wide receivers besides Tavon Austin, his stats might look a little bit better. Still there were times this season where he made questionable decisions and mistakes that lead losses. Not every rookie quarterback though is going to have instant success like Dak Prescott and win a super bowl in their following season the way Russell Wilson did. This is where Goff needs to start pursuing excellence and rise to become a leader.Ultimately his excellence will come by having a quiet offseason of hard work. That means burying himself at the Rams training facility in Thousand Oaks by bettering his mechanics and becoming more comfortable in the pocket. He has already taken personal responsibility for the team’s struggles. Seven interceptions only five touchdowns and a QBR rating of 25 is where Goff is at in terms of his development and production. He has already stated “I will do everything I can to fix it.” after blowing a two touchdown lead. It’s one thing to say the right things and it’s another thing to put it in action.
  1. Pursue the Deep Ball- Besides hiring a head coach that can fit the Rams personality, the team needs to go and get a primary target for Goff to throw to. Look no further than Alshon Jeffery who will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. With 38 million dollars in cap space to use in 2017, Snead will be shopping around to get Tavon Austin and Todd Gurley some help. Why not pursue the best weapon on the market?
  1. Time to get loud Silent Stan- As far as owners go no one has a higher business acumen then owner Stan Kroenke. Yet his approach hasn’t brought his team closer to the win column then his cerebral blazers and shades he glosses into. He was accepted and hailed by fans but stuck to close to his guns with the now departed Jeff Fisher.
  1. Find a head coach for a new era- According to recent reports Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay has emerged as a favoring candidate for both the Rams and the 49ers. A man who has grown up around the NFL, his father coached with Jon Gruden with Tampa Bay in 20089. The only knock is that McVay has little experience at just 30 years old. The upside is the fact that he kept Washington in the playoff picture for most of the season and had the third best offense despite having the ever Kirk Cousins has his QB. If you’re wondering Cousins threw 24 touchdowns but also was picked off 12 times. Give him Gurley and Goff who is looking to prove he was worth being the #1 overall choice, a fresh start with potentially the youngest head coach in the league could lead to positive results. The only downside about banking on McVay is that his grandfather John was a personal executive to Super Bowl winning head coach Bill Walsh. Considering the money the Rams are willing to throw, what McVay lacks in experience he makes up for with pedigree.
