Three New Year’s Resolutions For The Dodgers With 2017 Three Weeks Young

‏@dodgers_fanly

2017 is very much upon us, and we are just months away from the commencement of baseball season. Fresh off a division title and NLCS appearance, the Dodgers have much to look forward to in the New Year. Let’s get to some resolutions.

(1) Fill the second base void.

This has been a topic of conversation all offseason. With the departure of Chase Utley, the Dodgers are left with a sizable void to fill at second base. Brian Dozier‘s name came up endlessly in trade talks over the opening months of the offseason, but the noise has since calmed down. Despite those seemingly endless rumors, numerous sources have reported the Dodgers have shown serious interest in 23-year-old Jurickson Profar. The young 2B out of Texas has dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career and struggled mightily at the plate, but you could argue he provides the Dodgers with an upgrade over a potential internal fix, which we could realistically be looking at should no further dominoes fall.

Other names to have come up in conversation once or twice include but are not limited to Ian Kinsler, Logan Forsythe, and Josh Harrison, among others.

If worse comes to worst, a second-base-by-commitee type system is always a (less than desirable) option.

(2) Avoid the NL Wild Card game at all costs.

Sounds fun, right? What better way to kick off playoff baseball than with two elimination games right off the bat? I’m all for it, but this is certainly not something you want to be a part of. Win the division and we won’t need to have this conversation at all.

(3) Get Yasiel Puig back on his feet.

This kid is so, extremely polarizing. We’ve seen him at peak-potential, and yes, he’s something special. But we’ve seen him at rock-bottom, too, and that’s not a pretty sight. Puig needs to find himself, and, better yet, the Dodgers need to embrace who is as a player or move on from him completely.
