The Ups And Downs For The 2017 Angels, Part Two

@NoahG_97

Part two of this series will explore the infield and what to expect for the upcoming season.

INFIELD:

The Angels had plenty of ups and downs in the infield last season, mostly the downside of the play of the left side of the team’s infield. Yunel Escobar at third base and Andrelton Simmons combined committed 29 errors, Escobar committed a team-high 19. Well, the upside is that Simmons helped turned 82 double-plays last season to lead the team in that category.

Albert Pujols will join a very exclusive club later this season when he will join the 600-home run club. He’s nine homers away from the feat. Pujols has been bothered by a very nagging foot injury for the past several years and the team’s front office brought in some help.
Luis Valbuena comes over from the Houston Astros to give Pujols and C.J. Cron some much-needed help at first base.

Along with Valbuena. the Angels picked up Nolan Fontana from Houston. The starter at second base will be Danny Espinosa, joining the team from the Washington Nationals. Espinosa can hit! He hit 24 homers and drove in 72 runs last season and his bat and glove will be needed for a successful season.

The Angels infield will be much better this season with the newest additions to the team. We should see an improvement in turning double-plays with fewer errors from this solid veteran infield.
