The Ups and Downs For The 2017 Angels, Part Three

@halosheaven

The final part of this series will focus on the Angels outfield, catching, and the overall team outlook. Here is what to expect for the upcoming season.

OUTFIELD:

WE HAVE THE BEST PLAYER ON THE PLANET! And he’s back to defend his MVP title. Mike Trout has proven that he is the best player in the league once again, and he will be very productive this season as well. The Angels also have Kole Calhoun who is a solid defensive right fielder that can hit for power. Calhoun hit 18 homers last season and is looking to improve on his career-best of 25 homers in 2015. Newcomers Cameron Maybin and Ryan LeMarre will see time in left and center, respectively. The team also picked up speedy center fielder Ben Revere from the Washington Nationals, to provide a base stealing threat. The team’s outfield looks to be on the upside as long as they remain healthy.

CATCHERS:

The Angels will start with two veteran catchers to manage the team’s pitching staff. Martin Maldonado comes over from the Milwaukee Brewers and should be the starter. His back-up is Carlos Perez, who is entering his third season with the team. Perez should see more time behind the plate with the departure of Jett Bandy who left for the Milwaukee Brewers.

OVERALL ANALYST:

The Los Angeles Angels should be much improved for last season when they fell behind in the standings early and wasn’t able to climb above third place. This season brings the hope of the Angels moving back to challenge the contenders for the American League West title. The Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, and Seattle Mariners have all improved, to make this division very competitive. The Angels will need the veteran players to lead and the newer players to their best to help this team rebound from a very tough 2016. The key to this season is keeping the starters and the rest of the team HEALTHY. This season will be a true fight to the end of the season.

My prediction for the American League West:

Houston Astros
Texas Rangers
Los Angeles Angels
Seattle Mariners
Oakland A’s

Good luck to the Los Angeles Angels this season. The staff of CaliSports News will be rooting for you all season long.
