The Padres Future is Now

Padres

On Tuesday night, the Padres have made it known, the future is here. San Diego promoted their number four rated prospect to the 25-man roster. Luis Urias has been one of the best hitters in the minor leagues this season. However, Urias is just one piece of the puzzle. So far, throughout the season, the Padres have made similar moves with their pitching. After starting pitcher Dinelson Lamet went down at the end of spring training, San Diego promoted Joey Lucchesi to the majors. Lucchesi has impressed the Padres so far this season as he has a chance to win ten games this year.

Later on in the season, after some rough starts for Luis Perdomo, San Diego made the move to call up Eric Lauer. Lauer has not quite had the success of Lucchesi but has had bright spots during the season. Jacob Nix became the last pitcher to get a call-up and has shown he can dominate teams. San Diego has also called up a couple relievers as well.  After the trade involving Brad Hand and Adam Cimber, the Padres called up Trey Wingenter and Jose Castillo. Both of the young relievers have shown they can pitch in high leverage situations.

After all the moves San Diego has made this year, there is still more to come. Top catching prospect Francisco Mejia is expected to join the team in September. If the Padres do not resign Freddy Galvis in the offseason, expect Fernando Tatis Jr. to open with the team next year. San Diego has the number one ranked farm system in baseball, and those prospects are coming. The future for the Padres is as bright as can be.
