SuperCharger MVP – San Diego Chargers Week 8

http://gty.im/457743400

The San Diego Chargers had a short week to prepare for the great Peyton Manning and his Denver Broncos. For both teams, it seemed like they were a little off in the 1st half as little scoring would occur until the 2nd half of the game came around.

Peyton Manning would catch fire and start scoring touchdowns on most possessions in the 2nd half and it would be up to the Chargers and Philip Rivers to try to keep up with the quick pace of the Broncos.

Rivers would perform well and do his best to keep up with the scoring but would, ultimately, fall down a few scores and the game would be essentially over at that point. Rivers would pass for about 250 yards and 3 touchdowns but would also succumb to 2 interceptions.

Manning on the other hand, would have 300 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and have no interceptions. A typical night by Manning to say the least.

The final would be 21-35, Broncos.

Last week’s SuperCharger MVP was Eric Weddle who did a very similar job against the Broncos as he recorded 11 tackles which 9 were solo tackles.

Like stated before, Rivers played ok but would throw 2 interceptions which takes him out of the SuperCharger MVP race for week 8.

The running game was non-existent for the Chargers as their starting running back, Branden Oliver, would have 13 carries for 36 yards. The Chargers would have to abandon their running attack in the 2nd half as they would have to play catch-up for most of the game.

The Chargers would have a total of 41 passing plays to only 15 rushing plays.

There is only one other category to look at and that is the receiving group for the bolts. They, as a group, played very well. Starting receiver, Keenan Allen, had 9 receptions for  73 receiving yards and a touchdown. Allen was, once again, the most targeted out of the Chargers’ receiving group with 13 targets.

The SuperCharger MVP of week 8, though, has to go to the long-time veteran that continues to produce despite his age. Tight end, Antonio Gates, who had 5 receptions for 54 yards but, most importantly, having 2 touchdown receptions.

Like always, Gates would use his big body and his athleticism to make some very impressive catches along with also beating out the entire secondary on some routes.
