SuperCharger MVP – San Diego Chargers Week 16

http://gty.im/460733352

This game featured playoff implications but only for one side, though, which was the San Diego Chargers. Surprisingly, the San Francisco 49ers had no chance to get into the playoffs even before this game started. The Chargers, on the other hand, had to win in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.

At first, it seemed like the Chargers had no idea of the importance of this game as they would fall behind 0-21 as they were in the 2nd quarter. When the 2nd half came around, though, the Chargers would score on 5 total possessions and the 49ers would score on only 1 as the Chargers would be able to score a 40 yard field goal to get past the 49ers, 38-35 in overtime.

As a result, the Chargers were able to move up into the 6th seed in the AFC playoff picture. Week 17 will determine where all the pieces will fall into place.

Philip Rivers would struggle with interceptions throwing 3 but would be the key reason as to his team getting back into the game and securing the victory for the bolts of San Diego. Rivers’ total stats would be 33-54 for 356 passing yards, 4 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions.

The leading receiver, in terms of catches, would be Eddie Royal with 10 receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown. Newly founded receiver, Dontrelle Inman, had 7 receptions for 79 yards. Keenan Allen would be held to 0 receptions for the game.

On defense, the Chargers would be led by linebacker, Manti Te’o, who lead the team in total tackles with 11 and 8 of them being solo. Te’o would also have a sack in the game.

Who has to be our SuperCharger MVP, though, has to be the long-time veteran of the Chargers’ offense, Antonio Gates. Gates would have 7 receptions for 92 yards and 2 receiving touchdowns in the game. Gates would, for the game, have a 13.1 yard per reception average. Big time play by a big time tight end who seems to never age.
