SuperCharger MVP – San Diego Chargers Week 13

http://gty.im/459750316

Another NFL week is in the books along with another San Diego Chargers victory. This time, their opponent was against the Baltimore Ravens where both teams would be battle-tested but only one could come up on top. The Chargers would squeeze out this victory in the final minute of the game with a go-ahead touchdown to Eddie Royal. The Chargers’ defense would stop the Ravens last attempt on offense as the Chargers would be victorious, 34-33.

A couple of early turnovers by the Chargers’ offense would put the Chargers in a hole early and prevent them from ever taking the lead in the game until the final minute of the game. Throughout the day, it seemed like the Ravens’ offense was picking apart the Charger defense as there would no punts or turnovers for the Ravens’ offense until the 2nd half of the game.

With that being said, the Chargers’ defense actually deserves some needed credit. All day, the Ravens were starting in pretty good field position so entering field goal range would not be too difficult. As a result, the Ravens were able to score 16 points in the 1st half. 9 of these points would be from field goals, meaning, the Chargers only allowed 1 touchdown in the first half.

As the Ravens continued to manage a few points on the board on each possession, the Chargers kept looming in the back as they waited for their opportunity to take the lead. The Chargers were never down by more than 10 points in this game despite what seemed like a game being controlled by the Ravens.

The 2nd half came and the Chargers’ offense began to display their greatness as well. Quarterback, Philip Rivers, and his receiving core would make some great plays in order to hang tight with the Ravens. In fact, there would be a total of 4 Charger receivers who would hit 80 yards receiving or more in this contest (Keenan Allen, Malcom Floyd, Antonio Gates, Eddie Royal).

The game-winning touchdown pass in the final minute of the game would be to Eddie Royal on a 1-yard touchdown reception. This came after a pass interference penalty called on the Ravens in the red-zone on the previous play.

So choosing a SuperCharger MVP for this week is much tougher than previous weeks as there are plenty of players who could easily walk away with this honor. But, here at CaliSportsNews, we stick to only one despite how difficult it might be.

This week’s SuperCharger MVP has to go to…Keenan Allen. Allen was one of many Charger receivers on Sunday that showed elite ability but Allen still might have done the most out of all of them. Allen lead the team in receptions for the day (11) to go along with the most yards (121) and 2 receiving touchdowns including a touchdown where Allen literally had to do a 360 spin in the air to come down with the ball in the end-zone.

Allen definitely proved on Sunday why he deserves to be, not only the #1 target on the Chargers squad, but also considered to be one of the up and coming receivers in the league who could develop into all-star talent. Quite frankly, Allen is well-deserving of being an all-star this year.
