SuperCharger MVP – San Diego Chargers Week 11

With the San Diego Chargers sneaking out with a victory against their division foes in the Oakland Raiders, the bolts moved to 6-4 for the season. This would break a three game losing streak as the Chargers try to stay in the playoff hunt.
This game would be a defensive battle that would not be decided to the very last possession when the Raiders just could not get anything going and would run out of time to score a touchdown and tie the game up. The final was 13-6 in favor of the Chargers.
Chargers’ quarterback, Philip Rivers, had an alright game completing 22 of 34 passes for 193 yards and 1 touchdown. Rivers had an average completion of only 5.7 yards though as the Chargers offense would struggle to get big plays throughout the day.
Chargers’ running back, Ryan Mathews, had a decent game on the ground having 16 carries for 70 rushing yards and a 4.4 run per attempt. Matthews had one nice run of 20 yards as well but Matthews was non-existent in the passing game having only 1 reception for 5 yards.
On the receiving end of things, the Chargers’ top two receivers in Keenan Allen and Malcolm Floyd put up their usual numbers. Allen had 8 catches on 13 targets for 63 yards. Floyd only had 4 receptions for 44 yards but did have the lone touchdown reception of the day for both teams after making a nice 22-yard catch over a defender in the end zone.
On the Chargers’ defense, there were multiple players who contributed to helping the Chargers stay in the game with the Raiders. In fact, if it was possible, I would choose the entire Chargers’ defense as being the SuperCharger MVP of the week but we will stay consistent with the past and pick one specific player.
The SuperCharger MVP of week 11 goes to linebacker, Kavell Conner. Conner has been producing well for the Chargers’ defense throughout the year but he had his best game this past Sunday.
Conner had 9 total tackles to lead the Chargers’ defense with 6 of those tackles being solo. Conner would also have a nice sack on Raiders quarterback, Derek Carr, which would be Conner’s first sack this season and second for his NFL career.
Like stated before, multiple players on the Chargers’ defense deserved to MVP this week but Conner just so happened to get the nod due to his solo impact on the game. Strong safety, Marcus Gilchrist, also played well having 7 tackles with 6 being solo for the day.
