Stanton Hits 50th Homer, Padres Fall 6-2

Giancarlo Stanton joined the 50 home run club as the Miami Marlins beat the San Diego Padres 6-2 on Sunday night. With the loss the Padres have loss 4 of their last 5 games.

For San Diego Clayton Richard got the start. He pitched 7 innings allowing 8 hits and 5 runs. He walked 2 and struck out 7 as he picked up his 13th loss of the year

In the other side Dan Straily got the start. He pitched 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 runs. He walked 3 and struck out 5 as he was awarded a no decision.

The offense got started in the 3e inning when Stanton hit a RBI double hat brought in Dee Gordon. Stanton would score later in the inning on a wild pitch.

In the 5th inning Richard hit his 1st home run of the year, a 2-run shot that brought in Dusty Coleman and tied the score at 2. It was Stanton in the 8th inning that broke the tie and clinched his 50th homer that brought in Gordon and put the Marlins up by a score of 4-2.

Christian Yelich hit a RBI triple and then scored a fielding error. Derek Dietrich hit a solo home run to push the lead to 6-2. San Diego will take on the San Francisco Giants at Petco Park tonight at 7:10 p.m. PST.

Jeff Samardzija and Jhoulys Chacin are the projected starters.
