The St. Louis Rams will travel to San Diego to take on the Chargers this afternoon. The Chargers are coming off a victory against the Raiders, click here to read the recap.
During the week there has been some locker room issues with the Chargers. Tight end Antonio Gates was quoted saying that Philip Rivers has been playing through an injury for the last few weeks. Head coach Mike McCoy was not happy with Gates leaking the information to the media. i
Gates told ESPN.com this about the situation:
“He’s been taking shots all year,” he said. “For those who don’t know, he’s been dealing with a rib injury, a very severe rib injury. So he’s been toughing it out these last three, four weeks.”
McCoy brushed off the comments on Rivers “injury” saying there as nothing wrong with their QB. Rivers has not missed a game since 2005.
With that being said, the Rams are coming off a huge win against the Denver Broncos. They won in a convincing fashion 22-7. The Rams have been getting excellent pressure on opposing QB’s as they have record 18 sacks over the last several weeks.
The Chargers will need to do a good job of protecting Rivers, if they want to come away with the win. In the tight AFC West standings at this point of the season, every game counts.
Running back Ryan Mathews is expected to make his return for the Chargers tomorrow afternoon as well. He has been out since week 2 with a MCL sprain.
