Spangenberg Lifts Padres Over Phillies 7-4

Cory Spangenberg had a strong performance including 3 hits to lift the San Diego Padres over the Philadelphia Phillies 7-4 on Monday night. With the win the Padres ended their 2-game losing streak.

For the Padres Travis Wood got the start. He pitched 5 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 runs. He walked 2 and struck out 3 as he was awarded with a no decision for his efforts.

On the other side it was Jerad Eickhoff who got the start. He pitched 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs, 1 of them earned. He walked 3 and struck out 5 as he was awarded with a no decision for his efforts.

The offense got started in the 2nd inning for San Diego when Austin Hedges hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Wil Myers. This gave San Diego the early 1-0 lead.

In 3rd inning Odubel Herrera hit a RBI double that brought in Cesar Hernandez, this tied the score at 1-1. Ryan Hoskins hit his first career homer in the 4th inning. This gave the Phillies a 2-1 lead. In the bottom half of the inning Spangenberg scored on a throwing error.

Hernandez and Tommy Joseph scored in the 6th inning off a throwing error . Hedges hit a single in the 6th inning to tied the score a 3-3. Carlos Asuaje hit a RBI single that brought in Matt Szczur. Jose Pierla hit a 2-run single later in the inning that brought in Hedges and Manuel Margot.

Hoskins homered again in the 7th inning to cut the lead to 6-4. Spangenberg hit a solo shot of his own to give San Diego a 7-4 advantage.

Brad Hand came on in the 9th and picked up his 10th save of the year.
