Simon Despres Signs Contract Extension
- Updated: October 11, 2015
ESPN.com reports that Simon Despres, of the Anaheim Ducks, has signed a five-year contract extension worth $18.5 million, which equals an average of $3.7 million per season.
Is he excited about it? Here’s what he told the media after practice:
“I’m happy it’s done. I’m happy for me and my wife. It’s going to be an exciting time for the next five years, and I’m looking forward to winning a couple of Stanley Cups.”
And he’s not the only one who’s pleased with the deal!
“We’ve just touched the surface of his play,” Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. “He’s big and strong, and he’s still growing into his body. He was a very good offensive defenseman [who] turned into a good defensive defenseman, and now if you can [combine] both of those things, I think you’ve got something special.”
Simon Despres has become a big part of the Ducks team. He was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins and he earned his spot with his physical two-way play. Despres also scored six points in the Pacific Division champions’ final 16 regular-season games.
