Showtime MVP – Los Angeles Lakers Week 7

While the Los Angeles Lakers have appeared to be tanking the season away, the Lakers actually have been improving as the season goes on. Quite frankly, the Lakers even had a 3-game winning streak going for them. The move on Carlos Boozer to the bench as well as Jeremy Lin has, actually, given this team a spark and it has resulted in some wins for the Lakers.
The Lakers’ overall record that stands today is 8-18 and, in the past 7 days, the Lakers had 3 games where they would be 1-2.
Game #1: Los Angeles Lakers 100, Minnesota Timberwolves 94
The Lakers, at this point, had won 2 in a row and would be able to make it 3 in a row against the Timberwolves. It would be a pretty evenly matchup between the Lakers and Timberwolves but the Lakers would be able to outscore the Timberwolves in the 4th quarter and secure the victory.
The MVP for the Lakers, in this game, would not be the usual Kobe Bryant but, instead, it would be a player newly coming off the bench, Carlos Boozer. Boozer would have 22 poinits on 10-14 shooting and 13 rebounds. Boozer’s spark off the bench was a key factor in the Lakers 3rd consecutive victory.
Bryant would be the leading scorer with 26 but it would be in just 7-20 shooting.
Game #2: Los Angeles Lakers 91, Indiana Pacers 110
This game would end the winning streak for the Lakers as they would fall to the Indiana Pacers. In this one, it would be all about the Lakers’ poor shooting performance. As a team, the Lakers would shoot 33% from the field.
The Lakers’ leading scorer, again, would be Bryant with 21 but, again, it would be on a poor shooting performance. Bryant would be just 8-26 from the field.
Nick Young would score 18 off the bench and Boozer would have another nice night having a double double in points (13) and rebounds (10).
The only aggressive player for the Lakers would be Bryant and, as a result, the Lakers would suffer a bad loss to the Pacers.
Game #3: Oklahoma City Thunder 104, Los Angeles Lakers 103
The Lakers would shoot alot better in this one (48%) and, as a result, would play a much better game but would still fall right at the end by just one point to a always good Oklahoma City Thunder team.
This would be an unusal game because Kobe Bryant would not be the leading scorer for the Lakers…or the 2nd…or the 3rd. Heck, Bryant would only have 9 points for the night on 3-15 shooting. The leading scorer, instead, would be Ed Davis with 18. Boozer and Ronnie Price would tie for 2nd with 14 a piece.
Nick Young would be ejected in this one after shoving his forearm in the face of Thunders’ Steven Adams.
Bryant would get the last shot at the buzzer for the Lakers but his mid-range jumper would bounce off the rim and out.
Showtime MVP:
Kobe Bryant has been our MVP for the past few weeks but its time to give the award to someone else…actually, to someone who is now coming off the bench. Carlos Boozer.
For the week, Boozer averaged 16.3 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game. Boozer would also shoot efficiently from the field (56%).
Boozer would be the spark off the bench throughout the week as he would take command of his role on the offense and make the most of his oppurtunities.
