Shoemaker Solid, But Angels Lose, 2-1

@Angels

Although the 2016 season has been quite a disappointment for Angels fans, Matt Shoemaker has been a pleasant surprise, and he solidified that on Friday.

Shoemaker tossed six and two thirds innings of two-run ball, scattering five hits and striking out five along the way. He lowered his ERA to a season best 3.99; an extremely respectable mark which is good for best on the Angels among all qualified starters.

Unfortunately, LA was unable to supply Shoemaker with virtually any run support on Friday, which their one and only run coming on an RBI single by Andrelton Simmons.

George Springer and Jason Castro supplied the Astros with their only two runs, but it was enough for Houston to scratch out a 2-1 victory.

Notable performances out of the Angels’ bullpen included 0.1 scoreless innings from Joe Smith and a scoreless frame from JC Ramirez. Mike Trout had a rough night, going 0-3 with three strikeouts and a walk. His season batting average sits at .317, best on the Angels by the smallest of margins (Yunel Escobar, .316).

LA sits at 43-53 on the season, 11.5 games back of the first place Rangers in the American League West.
