Sharks Clinch Playoff Berth With Win Over Kings

The San Jose Sharks punched their ticket to the playoffs with 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night. San Jose has now made the playoffs in 11 of the last 12 years.

Vincent Lecavalier got the offense started early with a snap shot goal that was assisted by Alec Martinez and Brayden McNabb. This gave Los Angeles a 1-0 advantage.

Later in the period Justin Braun answered back with a wrist shot goal of his own. His goal was assisted by Melker Karlsson and Tommy Wingels and after the first period the game was tied at 1-1.

Joe Pavelski scored a wrist shot goal that was assisted by Tomas Hertl and Brent Burns. San Jose held a 2-1 lead until Lecavalier scored his second goal of the night. His wrist shot goal was assisted by Milan Lucic and Tyler Toffoli. Kings’ goaltender Jonathan Quick made an incredible save at the end of the period. Check it out below.

Joe Thornton continued his strong season with a goal in the third period. Pavelski and Burns were credited with the assists.

Karlsson scored a backhanded goal later in the period that pretty much put things out of reach for Los Angeles. Tommy Wingels and Roman Polak were credited with the assists and San Jose held a 4-2 lead. Braun went on to score an empty net goal that was assisted by Danius Zubrus and the Sharks beat the Kings 5-2.

Quick made 26 saves for a 87% save percentage. Martin Jones made 30 saves for a 94% save percentage.

Los Angeles will have a few days off before they take on the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.
