Seattle Mariners 16, San Diego Padres 13

The Seattle Mariners (31-22) won an incredible contest yesterday against the San Diego Padres (21-34). Both teams scored 10 or more runs last night in what was the largest come from behind win in Mariners history.

Mariners relief pitcher Cody Martin (1-0, 0.00 ERA) W [1.0 IP, 1 Hit, 0 ER] was the winning pitcher as Padres reliever Brandon Maurer (0-2, 7.11 ERA) L [0.0 IP, 3 Hits, 3 ER] took the loss for the night.

The offensive frenzy began as Seattle scored in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. San Diego then responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead 4-1.

Starting pitchers Colin Rea (3-2, 4.85 ERA) [5.1 IP, 3 K’s 6 Hits, 5 ER] and Wade Miley (5-2, 5.85 ERA) [4.2 IP, 2 K’s, 12 Hits, 9 ER] pitched for at least four innings.

In the fourth inning both teams scored a run a piece. Then in the bottom of the fifth inning the Padres scored seven runs. Extending their lead to 12-2 by the end of the fifth inning.

The Mariners responded in the top of the 6th inning with five more runs as the score was 12-7 Padres. During the top of the seventh inning Seattle scored nine runs taking a 16-12 lead. San Diego scored one final run in the bottom of the seventh inning making it 16-13.

Mariners closer Steve Cishek (2-3, 2.49 ERA) [1.0 IP, 2 K’s, SV 11] earned the save. The Mariners scored 47 runs in this series and the Padres scored 34 in four games. This was a great inter league series as both teams combined for 81 runs in four games.

Tonight at 7:40 PM PT the Padres open up a weekend set against the Colorado Rockies (24-29) Rockies starting pitcher Chris Rusin (1-3, 4.75 ERA) will face Padres starter Drew Pomeranz (4-5, 2.48 ERA) in game one.
