Season Ticket Holder Perks: Meet the Players Event
- Updated: September 15, 2015
There are many benefits to being a season ticket holder; guaranteed seats to every game, first crack at more tickets and playoff seats (not to mention a discounted price for those seats, and for those who’ve seen how much playoff seats go for on StubHub know that’s a huge one), a designated representative who’s job is to keep you happy, gifts, trinkets, and the annual season ticket holder ‘Meet the Players’ event, held this year September 14th at Staples Center.
First up, walking in, it’s unbelievably refreshing to walk back into that ice rink. Not only does the temperature drop about 20 degrees, but that familiar chill of that sheet of ice feels like coming home. Sadly you only get to meet four of the players. Signatures and no photos. But the exclusive event gives you a closer look at the players than any seat in the house. It’s always entertaining to look around the arena and see what people have brought to be autographed. Jerseys are a staple, obviously. Pucks. Framed photos. Basically anything you can buy at the Team LA store (which was, of course, having a sale.) Large sticks. Bobble heads. Wine bottles for the Jim Fox Pantine Cellars crowd. Plush toys. It’s a cornucopia of LA Kings merchandise and I’m not ashamed to say how much of it I already own.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Carter, who showed up without his two front teeth, and still looked more attractive that most. Very pleased to see Jamie McBain, who I thought was quite underused last season. Nick Dowd, who looks so young even the 21 year olds near me felt old. And the lovely Tyler Toffoli, whom I jokingly said ‘I couldn’t figure out what to get signed so my brother suggested anything with your phone number on it.’ He grinned. I tried not to swoon.
For the first time, every LA Kings banner was taken from the rafters and placed on display for us to take photos with. The retired jerseys. The Conference Finals Champions banners. And of course the two Stanley Cup Champions banners. Those were a huge hit. Bailey strolls the hallways too, always bringing a smile to everyone’s face. And one of the cooler experiences for the nerdier fans – a visit to the locker room. (As many pointed out this was a great experience because we got there after the cleaning and febreeze before the players have had a chance to bring their unique athletic smell to it.)
It was a great way to kick off the beginning of the new season. Bring on the hockey!
