Servais and former Angels general manager, current Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto have history from their days in Anaheim. Dipoto resigned from his post in Anaheim after having a falling out period with Angels skipper Mike Scioscia.
Servais played college baseball at Creighton University before having a 10 year career in the majors as a catcher. After his playing days he spent time in Chicago with the Cubs as a catcher’s coach, before joining the Rockies and then the Angels.
Although Servais has no managerial experience reports have surfaced that he interviewed for the San Diego Padres vacant position as well.
I think that Servais relationship with Dipoto is strong enough to give him the job. Not having expereince doesn’t seem to bother many clubs like it used to.
