The San Diego Padres will play host to the defending World Series Champion San Francisco Giants in their home opener. After an entertaining series against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers the Padres look to send a message with a series victory over the Giants.

For the Padres Ian Kennedy will get the start. Kennedy is coming off a year in which he surpassed 200 innings and 200 strikes for the Frias. He posted a 13-13 record with a 3.63 ERA in 33 games. He’ll get his first crack at the defending champs as he’s fared pretty well against them throughout his career. Over the course of his career he is 9-4 with a 2.52 ERA against the Giants.

For the Giants veteran Tim Hudson will get the start. Last season Hudson posted a 9-13 record with a 3.57 ERA. He started off 2014 very strong and will try to duplicate that start this season.

He’ll have to face a Padres lineup which has a a lot of new faces playing in Petco Park for the first time. Matt Kemp, Will Middlebrooks, and Craig Kimbrel each left their mark in the Dodgers series and will look to do the same this afternoon.

Go Padres!
