San Diego Padres Spring Training 3/31/15
- Updated: March 31, 2015
The San Diego Padres welcomed the defending American League Champion Kansas City Royals to Peoria Sports Complex for a Tuesday night Cactus League tilt.
On the mound for the Padres was Brandon Morrow. Morrow was looking to make one last good impression in hopes of securing the elusive No.5 spot in the starting rotation. Morrow tossed 4.1 inning allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while also striking out four Royals.
Offensively, Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-3. Gyorko is looking to carry some momentum into the regular season as he makes his third consecutive Opening Day start for the Padres. Outfielder Will Venable went 1-3 driving in the lone run for the Padres. Catcher Derek Norris looks to be gaining some traction at the perfect time as he hit safely in his 6th consecutive game.
Relief pitcher Nick Vincent would continue his strong spring with another scoreless inning. Vincent has yet to allow a run all spring.
The Royals would ultimately win the game by a score of 4-1.
Following the loss, the Padres spring record falls to 15-12, still good enough for 4th in the Cactus League.
The Friars are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Camelback Ranch to take on the Chicago White Sox at 1:05PM.
