The Padres and Amarista agreed to the deal that avoids arbitration. Amarista is a utility player who has had some major struggles offensively. He hit just .239 for the Padres last season.
He is still just 25-years old and the Padres believe he can become a better hitter. Standing at just 5’6″ he is known as one of the smallest players in baseball.
General Manager, AJ Preller, spoke about this to UTSanDiego.com:
“General Manager A.J. Preller, who has overhauled the offense in most other places, might still seek an upgrade. If he does, Amarista may return a utility role.”
