San Diego Padres Set 40-Man Roster

Padres

On Tuesday evening, the San Diego Padres protected as many prospects as possible when they cleared seven roster spots. The reasoning behind the moves was for the Rule 5 Draft.

San Diego has the best farm system in Major League Baseball, and many teams will be looking for players to take. Here is the list of players the Padres moved off their roster.

Infielders: Christian Villanueva, Cory Spangenberg, and Allen Cordoba.

Pitchers: Colin Rea, Colten Brewer, Walker Lockett, and Rowan Wick.

After the Rule 5 Draft is complete, San Diego will still need to make a few more moves if they plan to improve for next season. Expect San Diego to be busy during the Winter Meetings next month as third base is wide open now.

San Diego will look to improve on another season where they did not reach the postseason. As they rebuild more moves will be on the horizon.
