San Diego Padres Release Alexei Ramirez

@mlbcuba

According to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com the San Diego Padres have released shortstop Alexei Ramirez.

Kyle Glaser of Baseball America has also reported the news.

Ramirez made his debut in the Majors in 2008 and spent eight years with the Chicago White Sox. With the White Sox he won two Silver Slugger Awards and made an All-Star team a few years ago.

In the offseason he joined the Padres and has played in 128 games. This season he has hit .240 and has 101 hits. Ramirez’s struggles made the organization want to move on to younger alternatives like Luis Sardinas.

San Diego will take on the Boston Red Sox at Petco Park today at 1:40 p.m. PST. Edwin Jackson will square off against Drew Pomeranz.

As more information surfaces on the Padres and their roster moves we will keep you up to date.
