It’s safe to say the San Diego Padres struggled last night in their 6-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants.
Ryan Vogelsong kicked off the pitching as San Diego stepped up to bat. Vogelsong allowed one hit in the first inning. Ian Kennedy was up next for the Padres as the Giants switched places. The scoring came in the bottom of the third.
After Angel Pagan walked, Joe Panik was up next. Panik hit a sacrifice fly to right which helped Andrew Susac to score for the Giants. It was Buster Posey‘s turn next as he homered to left center and Gregor Blanco, Pagan, and Matt Duffy scored. At the end of the inning the Padres were down 5-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Giants returned to bat. With Blanco up he singled to deep center which helped Susac to score.
CBSSports.com reports the following on the game:
”You can’t give them five outs,” said Padres interim manager Pat Murphy, whose club gave up five unearned runs in the loss. ”I felt like we gave them the extra outs. If we played defense better, we wouldn’t be talking about it.”
Susac tripled and scored in the fourth to make it 6-0.
Vogelsong pitched out of a jam in the fourth after walking the leadoff batter and giving up a double to Justin Upton. Vogelsong got Derek Norris to strike out looking, fielded Will Venable‘s comebacker to catch Yonder Alonso in a rundown between third and home, then got Middlebrooks to ground out.
