Olivera is a 29-year-old second baseman that has plenty of hype around his name. He is listed at 6’2″ and 195 pounds and he still has a lot of hoops to jump through before he will be cleared to play in the United States.
There is a lot of buzz surrounding this Cuban star but he does have an injury history. He was unable to play the entire 2012-2013 season due o thrombosis in his left bicep.
Last season he did come back quite nicely as he hit .316 including 7 home runs in only 273 at bats while playing for the Serie Nacional club.
It will interesting to see how much Olivera will demand on the market and just how much the Padres are willing to spend on the infielder.
The Padres have shown they are not afraid to pull the trigger on a deal. Only time will if Olivera will be able to play in the states and with who.
