The San Diego Padres were unable to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks this afternoon. The game ended 7-2.

Things started slowly for both teams as Jeremy Hellickson kicked things off with his pitching. Andrew Cashner came in and was three and done to close the first inning.

The bottom of the second provided all of the Diamondbacks 7 runs. With Cashner pitching Nick Ahmed reached on fielder’s choice to third, helping Jake Lamb to score, which also moved Chris Owings to third and Jarrod Satalamacchia to second on Will Middlebrows throwing error.

Jeremy Hellickson was hit by pitch helping Owings to score, in turn moving Saltalamacchia to third, and Ahmed to second. With A.J. Pollock up he singled to left and both Saltalamacchia and Ahmed scored and Hellickson moved around. David Peralta was safe at first on shortstop Clint Barmes‘ fielding error, helping Hellickson score, moving Pollock to third, and Peralta to second. Up next was Paul Goldschmidt who singled to center and Peralta and Pollock scored. This put the Diamondbacks up 7-0.

It wasn’t until the top of the fifth inning that Will Venable scored after Brett Wallace doubled to right. Papers got on the board and put the score at 7-1.

At the top of the sixth the Padres scored again thanks to Matt Kemp after he hit a sacrifice fly to right. Yonder Alonso was the one who scored.

The game ended 7-2 and the San Diego Padres will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on the San Francisco Giants.
