San Diego Padres – Bring Back the Brown?
- Updated: February 2, 2015
The Padres uniform options have been an ever-changing whiteboard since their inception as a club in 1969. They’ve been all over the color wheel with color schemes of Brown and Orange to Navy and Orange and even Navy and Sand. Six times the Padres have changed uniforms or color schemes. Once thing is for sure, San Diego needs an identity they can make their own.
Following all the off season moves its time for the Padres to formulate an identity to make their own as they move into a new era of baseball in San Diego. A classic look that separates them from the rest of the league is needed. The current Padres look is somewhat common and played out as they feature similar colors to the Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins. Recently a few clubs have transitioned back to retro uniforms, for example the Houston Astros. An extreme face-lift is needed to the dull, lifeless uniforms the Friars currently have.
A sweeping movement on Twitter called #BringBackTheBrown is begging the front office of the Padres to return to their iconic Brown and Yellow jerseys from the early years of the Padres. Nothing says San Diego Padres more than those spectacular jerseys. Notable Padres Great’s such as Tony Gwynn, Dave Winfield, and Randy Jones all donned the Brown at one point in their career.
All the change surrounding the team it finally makes sense for uniform and color scheme change. An identity is something the Padres have lacked for years. If the front office were to re-introduce the brown while holding onto the Sunday Home Camouflage uniforms I think that a lot of fans of both baseball and the Padres would be thrilled.

Should the Padres bring back the Brown or should they keep the current color scheme and uniform options?
