San Diego Padres 5, Pittsburgh Pirates 4

Last night at Petco Park, the San Diego Padres (5-9) were able to win the first game of three against the Pittsburgh Pirates (7-7). This was a much-needed win for the Padres against a tough National League central team.
Padres starting pitcher Colin Rea (1-1, 5.51 ERA) W [5.0 IP, 7 Hits, 6 K’s, 3 ER] earned his first win of the season versus Pirates starter Francisco Liriano (1-1, 4.11 ERA) L [4.1 IP, 6 Hits, 4 K’s, 2 HR, 4 ER]
The scoring started early as the Pirates were the first to get on the board. Third baseman David Freese hit an RBI single to center field as star outfielder Andrew McCutchen scored. It was 1-0 Pittsburgh.
In the top of the third inning, the Pirates took a 2-0 lead as McCutchen scored with a balk by Colin Rea. Pittsburgh extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth. Francisco Liriano hit an RBI single to left field as shortstop Jordy Mercer scored.
It wasn’t until the bottom of the fourth when San Diego answered with some runs. First baseman Wil Myers hit a 2-run home run to left center field as Alexei Amarista scored as it was 3-2 Pirates.
During the bottom of the fifth inning Padres catcher Derrick Norris hit another 2-run home run to center field. San Diego regained the lead from the home runs making it 4-3 Padres. Second baseman Adam Rosales hit another home run as the Padres extended their lead to 5-3 over the Pirates.
Lastly in the top of the eighth Pittsburgh managed to score one last run via fielding error by Adam Rosales. Tonight at 7:10 PM PT game two of this series will begin. Pirates starting pitcher Jeff Locke (0-1, 2.53 ERA) will look for his first win against Padres starter Drew Pomeranz (1-1, 3.27 ERA
