San Diego Padres 2, Colorado Rockies 1

@gaslampball

Last night at Petco Park, the San Diego Padres (10-16) were able to win against the Colorado Rockies (12-13). This was their tenth win of the season as the Padres needed this one for sure.

Starting pitcher James Shields (1-4,  3.23 ERA) [6.0 IP, 9 Hits, 5 K’s 1 ER] earned his first win of the season against Rockies starter Jon Gray (0-1, 7.98 ERA) [6.o IP, 4 Hits, 11 K’s, 2 ER]

The scoring began early in this contest between these two ball clubs. In the bottom of the first inning, Padres outfielder Matt Kemp hit an RBI double to left field as Jon Jay and Wil Myers scored.

This gave San Diego an early 2-0 lead. It wasn’t until the top of the fourth inning when Colorado was able to get on the board. Catcher Nick Hundley hit an RBI double to right field as Carlos Gonzalez scored the only run for the Rockies.

San Diego closer Fernando Rodney (0-1, 0.00 ERA) earned his fifth save on the season as the final score was 2-1. Tonight at 7:10 PM PT game two will begin. Rockies starting pitcher Eddie Butler (0-0, 3.86 ERA) will face Padres starter Andrew Cashner (1-2, 4.94 ERA)
