San Diego Chargers Vs. Kansas City Chiefs Start Time, Preview, TV
- Updated: December 28, 2014
The San Diego Chargers will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in week 17 of the season. Last week the Chargers made an amazing comeback and beat the 49ers in overtime after a Nick Novak field goal in overtime.
If the Chargers win today they will clinch a playoff berth. For the Chiefs to make the playoffs they will need to win and a lot of dominos to fall in their favor.
The odds are not in the Chiefs favor as their starting quarterback Alex Smith will not play today due to a lacerated spleen. Chase Daniel will get the start for the Chiefs.
While the Chargers are pleased with the win that was the biggest comeback in team history, they hope they Phillip Rivers starts off stronger today. In the first half against the Niners, Rivers threw for only 83 yards and two interceptions.
Head Coach Mike McCoy did praise Rivers for his second half effort when he talked to ESPN.com reporters.
“It says a lot about him,” coach Mike McCoy said of Rivers. “A lot of other teams, not just the quarterback, would have folded the way they played the first half. Philip’s one of the fiercest competitors and toughest competitors I’ve ever been around.”
Antonio Gates has a chance to make history today. He currently has 99 career touchdown receptions and one more puts him in exclusive company. Only 8 players in NFL history have 100 touchdown catches and only one other tight end.
You probably know who the other tight end is. The Chargers have won 5 out of the last 7 meetings with the Chiefs.
