According to the official Twitter account of the San Diego Chargers, they have signed wide receiver Austin Pettis.

Pettis is originally from Los Angeles, California and was a third round selection back in 2011 to the St. Louis Rams. He has the ability to not only be a receiver but also a special teams option as well.

During his tenure in St. Louis Pettis caught 107 passes in four years with the club. His best season was in 2013 where he made 38 receptions and scored four touchdowns.

Pettis was released from the Rams back in October after playing in 5 games. Rams coach Jeff Fisher spoke to ESPN.com about Austin Pettis being cut:

“We appreciate Austin’s contributions, everything that he’s done here,” Fisher said. “He made a lot of plays for us. We needed to make some moves with respect to some other positions. I’m not going to go into detail about what we’re going to do but we needed a roster spot.”

In his five games with the Rams he made 12 receptions and scored one touchdown. The Chargers hope that Pettis will be able to provide some speed in the return game next season. #BoltUp
