Robert Upshaw Waived By The Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have begun the process of trimming their roster down to the mandated 15 players. Today the team announced, and NBA.com confirmed, that they have waived Robert Upshaw and Michael Frazier II. The Lakers roster now sits at 17.

This means that Mitch Kupchak has decided Robert Sacre is a more effective player for the team, which could be true seeing as Upshaw struggled on offense. It also might have something to do with Sacre having a guaranteed $1 million contract to his name.

All is not lost for Upshaw, however, depending on how you look at it. The Lakers are hoping that he will sign with their D-League team after the waivers clear.

Bleacher Report.com reports the following on Upshaw:

“The Lakers figured he was worth a risk but ultimately decided the center depth provided by Roy HibbertSacre and Tarik Black was satisfactory.

Upshaw showed some flashes in putting up 2.5 points, three rebounds and 0.75 blocks in 14.1 minutes per game during the preseason, and based on his pure, raw talent, he has a chance to catch on somewhere else eventually.”

Good luck to Robert Upshaw!
