Reign Weekly Wrapup: Heading in Right Direction After Saturday Victory
- Updated: November 14, 2017
Things are heading in the right direction for the Ontario Reign as it capitalized on its only game of the week, a 4-1 victory over the rival San Diego Gulls on Saturday night extending a point streak to five games. The 4-6-0-1 Gulls are now nine points behind the Pacific Division-leading Tucson Roadrunners, and if you do the quick math somehow only three points out of fifth place, given three teams sit at 11 points, including those dastardly Gulls.
Well, the Reign got the best of the Gulls this time, as Ontario outshot its opponent 38 to 12, and forward Andrew Crescenzi tallied two goals and an assist.
The Reign got goals in the first from forward Jonny Brodzinski and defenseman Alex Lintuniemi.
The scoreless second period saw the Reign pepper the Gulls goalie with 16 shots, while San Diego tallied a total of zero shots. Zip.
After San Diego broke the shutout on defenseman Keaton Thompson’s goal at 15:07 of the third period, Crescenzi finished it off with an empty-net goal at with 33 seconds to go.
Ontario next plays the San Jose Barracuda at 1:15 p.m., Saturday, November 18 at the SAP Center in San Jose.
