RECAP: Uribe’s Single Sinks Dodgers, Mets Win, 3-2
- Updated: July 26, 2015
After being traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Juan Uribe has haunted his former team, for the third time this week.
The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-2, with the help of a familiar face, Juan Uribe, his single in the bottom of the 10th inning, gave the Mets the win and a split of the four game weekend series between the two teams.
The game started out with all eyes on Dodgers starter Zack Greinke,(9-2), who was returning from a brief leave from the team, for the birth of his first child and to see how much further he could extend his scoreless-innings streak, which has reached 45.2/3 innings. New York snapped the streak, when Mets starter Jacob deGrom,(10-6), grounded into a fielder’s choice to Adrian Gonzalez, that scored Kirk Nieuwenhuis from third, to give the Mets the early one run lead.
Jacob DeGrom left the game in the 8th inning, only allowing two hits, while striking out 8, as he kept the Dodgers off the scoreboard to this point. Los Angeles avoided the shutout in the top of the ninth inning, when Justin Turner drove in the first Dodgers run, on a double to left center field that scored Adrian Gonzalez. Several batters later, Yasmani Grandal singled to left field that scored Carl Crawford. Then in the bottom of the tenth inning, Uribe hit a deep fly ball to left center, that just missed going over the wall, for a single to drive in Curtis Granderson for the game-winning run.
Juan Nicasio,(1-3), took the heartbreaking loss for the Dodgers in this one and Jenrry Mejia,(1-0), picked up his first win of the season, in relief.
The second straight loss for Los Angeles,(56-44), who are currently holding a 1.5 lead in the National League West, over the San Francisco Giants, who are playing currently and the lead could get down to a .5, before the end of the day.
The team will open up an Inter-League series at home against the Oakland Athletics. Brett Anderson,(5-5, 3.33 ERA), is scheduled to start against his former team. The A’s will counter with their ace, Sonny Gray,(10-4, 2.30 ERA). The two teams will meet in a short two game series at Dodgers Stadium that starts at 7:10 PST. The Dodgers and A’s will face each other later in August, in Oakland.
