Recap: Rockies 5, Padres 0 – Chris Rusin pitches shutout

Yesterday afternoon at Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies shutout the San Diego Padres to avoid being swept. The Rockies were lead by their starting pitcher Chris Rusin (4-5, 3.99 ERA, 9.0 IP, 4 K’s, 5 Hits, 1 BB) (W) Who was no doubt the player of this game.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Ian Kennedy (7-11, 4.20 ERA, 6.2 IP, 8 K’s, 4 Hits, 1 ER) (L) pitched well only giving up one run. However it was just too much as Chris Rusin held the Padres lineup scoreless all game.
Rusin received run support as the offense started in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez (1-4, HR, RBI) hit a solo shot home run to center field. Colorado took the lead at 1-0.
In the bottom of the seventh inning the offense continued for Colorado as San Diego was struggling. Rockies catcher Michael McKenry (1-3, 3 RBI, K) hit a three run RBI triple as three runs scored giving Colorado a 4-0 lead.
The final run came by Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes (1-4, 1 RBI, 2 K’s) as he hit an RBI single to shallow left field. Chris Rusin scored the final run of the game and would go on to complete the shutout of the Padres.
Tonight at 7:10 PM PT the San Diego Padres (56-62) will begin a series against the Atlanta Braves (53-64). Padres starting pitcher Colin Rea (1-0, 5.40 ERA) will face Braves starter Williams Perez (4-3, 4.21 ERA)
