- Updated: August 14, 2015
Last night at Chavez Ravine the Los Angeles Dodgers opened up a four game series over the Cincinnati Reds. The result was frustrating to watch and hear about but hopefully these struggles will relate to success next month and October.
Reds rookie starting pitcher Keyvius Sampson (2-1, 3.18 ERA, 5.0 IP, 3 K’s, 5 Hits, 2 ER) (W) won as Mat Latos (4-9, 4.81 ERA, 4.2 IP, 7 K’s, 7 Hits, 4 ER) (L) struggled in his second start as a Dodger.
It unfortunately started in the top of the third inning. Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton hit an RBI single to left field as Tucker Barnhart scored. Brandon Phillips added to their lead as he hit another RBI single bringing in Hamilton to score. Cincinnati led 2-0 at the end of the third inning.
The Reds scored once more as left fielder Marlon Byrd as he hit a sacrifice fly to right field as Todd Frazier scored. Dodgers center fielder Joc Pederson hit his 22nd home run of the year as the Reds were up 3-1 at the end of the fourth inning.
The scoring continued for Cincinnati as they scored two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. During the bottom half of the fifth, Adrian Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly bringing in Justin Turner to score as it was 5-2 Reds.
The lead continued to pile on as the Reds scored four more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Trailing 9-2 Joc Pederson hit the final run for the Dodgers via sacrifice fly to left as Yasiel Puig scored in the bottom of the sixth. The Reds scored one more run as Billy Hamilton hit a home run late in the ninth as the final was 10-3 Cincinnati.
Tonight at 7:10 PM PT game two will begin. Reds starting pitcher John Lamb (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will face Alex Wood (7-7, 3.72 ERA) as the Dodgers look to get back on track
