Recap: Pirates 6, Dodgers 5

This past afternoon in PNC park was intriguing as the Dodgers lost their second straight game by one run. There was a clear indication from the beginning that both lineups were ready to go.

Pittsburgh Pirates starter Francisco Liriano (7-6, 3.13 ERA, 3.0 IP, 4 K’s, 7 Hits, 4 ER) struggled but as did Dodgers starting pitcher Mat Latos (4-8, 4.67 ERA, 4.0 IP, 7 Hits, 6 ER) (L) Though it was the Dodgers offense who showed up first.

In the top of the first inning Dodgers outfielder Scott Van Slyke hit an RBI single to left field as Howie Kendrick scored. This gave Los Angeles a 1-0 lead. The Pirates responded in the bottom of the first as Andrew McCutchen tied the game with an RBI single to center.

During the top of the second inning Adrian Gonzalez kept the offense going as he hit an RBI single. Mat Latos scored as the Dodgers were up 2-1. This is where Latos struggled on the mound. Opposing pitcher Francisco Liriano hit a three-run home run to left field giving the Pirates a 4-2 lead.

Dodgers outfielder Enrique Hernandez tied the game with a two-run homer to center field. This happened in the   top third inning as the Dodgers struggled to score runs. The Pirates regained the lead 6-4 in the bottom of the third inning.

The Los Angeles Dodgers scored one more run in the top of the ninth but it was too little to late. The final score was 6-5 Pittsburgh as they have won two out of three. Game three is tomorrow at 5:00 PM PT. Hopefully the Dodgers can avoid being swept by the Pirates.
