The Los Angeles Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals have been rivals for over 125 years and have played over 2,050 games during that time frame. In the rubber game of the series, between the two teams, the Cardinals managed to win the series, two games to one.
St. Louis waisted no time, they started out in the bottom of the first inning, after a single by Matt Carpenter, Jhonny Peralta hit a two run shot into the left field stands, off of Dodgers starter Brett Anderson and the Cardinals went in front to stay in this game.
The Blue Crew got a run in the top of the eight inning when Joc Pederson hit a solo shot off of Kevin Siegrist, over the right centerfield wall, to bring the Dodgers back to within a single run at 2-1.
The Cards came back in the bottom of the eight, John Jay walked and moved to second base after Matt Carpenter walked. Jhonny Peralta came through again with another base hit, that scored Jay from second. Trevor Rosenthal came in the bottom of the ninth inning, to earn his 15th save of the season. Carlos Martinez was very effective in this game, he only allowed one hit and only three Dodgers to get on base through the seven innings he pitched. Martinez earned the win, he is now 5-2 on the season, Brett Anderson took loss, his record now drops to 2-3.
The team now heads to Denver, for a four game series with the red hot Colorado Rockies before returning home to face the St. Louis Cardinals for the final time this season.
