The Padres pulled off a big feat last night as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals 9-3, at home. Not only was this a nice win for the team but it was also the marker of the 500th win at Petco Park.
Andrew Cashner kicked off the pitching for the Padres and allowed one run from Stephen Piscotty after Yadier Molina singled to right.
John Lackey took lead for the Cardinals, and didn’t allow any runs, hits, or errors to close out the first inning.
Cashner followed Lackey’s suit in the top of the first and kept play at a minimum. The second inning closed out 0-0.
Scoring came in the fifth when the Padres stepped up to the plate. Alexi Amarista scored, which moved Cashner to third due to a Piscotty throwing error. Cashner scored after Travis Jankowski singled to center, and then Yangervis Solarte homered to right and Jankowski scored. The Padres weren’t done though! Thanks to Justin Upton singling to center, Yonder Alonso scored. That’s 5 runs folks!
Bud Norris relieved Cashner in the seventh inning and helped Mark Reynolds to score after Thomas Pham tripled to deep. Marc Rzepczynski relieved Bud Norris in mid seventh.
Piscotty hit a sacrifice fly to center which helped Pham to score. The Cardinals had two runs, 3 hits and zero errors in the top of the seventh.
Amarista scored again in the eighth, after Brett Wallace homered to right. Then Matt Kemp homered to left Solarte scored. The game ended 9-3!
The Padres and Cardinals will take on each other again tonight this evening at 5:40 p.m. PST.
