RECAP: Padres, Gyorko, Edge St. Louis, 2-1.

The San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals faced off in the second game of a four game holiday weekend series, with the Padres taking a 2-1 win.
Padres Second baseman Jedd Gyorko was simply a one man wrecking crew, as he collected the two key hits, to give the Padres the victory. Gyorko tied the game in the seventh inning, on a left field home run, off of St. Louis starter Michael Wacha. In the top of the ninth inning, Gyorko singled to left, to score Yangervis Solarte, who had tripled off Cardinals Closer Trevor Rosenthal,(1-1), for the final run.
Padres Closer Craig Kimbrel came on in the bottom of the ninth inning, to collect his 21st save of the season. Over Kimbrel’s career, he has now converted all 11 save attempts against the St.Louis Cardinals. Andrew Cashner started for Padres and pitched a full six innings, giving up the Cardinals only run on three hits.
The win gives San Diego,(39-43), their second straight win and with a loss for St. Louis, (51-28),has now lost four straight games (which is a season high). The Two teams will face each other in game three on Saturday.
The Padres will send Odrisamer Despaigne (3-6, 4.94 ERA), and the Cardinals will counter with Carlos Martinez (9-3, 2.80 ERA).
